Natural Capital Accounting Informing Water Management Policies in Europe

In the European Union, Water Framework Directive provides a roadmap for achieving good water status and sustainable usage, framework information, types of analysis, interventions required by Member States. Lack previous knowledge in, understanding of, interdisciplinary approaches across countries has led to applications corrective measures that have yielded less than favourable results. The natural capital paradigm, assessment monitoring value capital, potential convey information on use resources improve connection between implemented changes in resources, thus enhancing effectiveness policy interventions. this paper, we present accounting methodology, adapted requirements Directive, demonstrate its application two catchments. Using economic methods, asset ecosystem services was estimated associated with due instruments. Findings residential consumption recreational purposes fluctuates from year year, influenced current future uses. Consequently, managing authorities should consider both emerging pressures when designing manage resource sustainably.
